Preparing for exploratory data analysis unit#

In the forthcoming exploratory data analysis unit, we will build on our theoretical foundations and start to work with some real data.

Today’s goal: collect some data!

We’ll collectively design an (anonymous) survey, and then take some time to fill it out.

Then we will learn analysis techniques that will help us explore and draw conclusions from the data we collected today.

I’ve made a start here.

Setting the stage#

My requirements:

  • Be wary of privacy and anonymity.

  • Keep it kind!

What is our vision for this survey?

  • What different types of data could we collect?

  • Do we want one (or several) themes?

  • Are there opinions you’re interested in polling?

    • What is more interesting: 50/50 opinions, or opinions with a small minority?

Survey design time#

  1. Break up into groups of 3-5.

  2. Take 15 minutes to design 1 or 2 questions. Once we are all done, we’ll take the survey (it is anonymous).

  3. Add them to the Google form:

Taking the survey#
